09. Turn unlinked brand mentions into free links: you need Google Search only
In this post, I'll teach you an easy way to earn hundreds, possibly even thousands of new backlinks. Let's turn unlinked brand mentions into new citations?
Hey-hey!
Hope you have a great weekend!
I’d like to welcome new followers one more time - happy to see you on board!
In this post, I’ll provide you with a well-explained, step-by-step strategy on how to get more free links to your website just by using Google Search.
Let’s dive in!
Unlinked brand mentions are mentions of your brand on other websites that do not link back to your site.
There also can be mention of anything related to your brand - products, CEO name, newsletter, tools, etc.
Before we move on to the tactics, I recommend making a list of any unique products, services, and brand representatives for your business.
Here are a few for Hunter.io - our client:
Hunter.io;
Hunter;
Hunter for Chrome;
Email Finder Hunter;
Let’s now find these unlinked mentions.
There’s also a possibility to do that with Ahrefs Content Explorer, but I’ll show you the tactic using Google Search as it’s absolutely free and available for all of you.
Find Unlinked Mentions with Google Search
Let’s search for “Email Finder Hunter” and exclude results from hunter.io.
We don’t need results from social media sites as well - these aren’t useful.
Here’s my search formula:
intext: Email Finder Hunter -hunter.io -twitter.com -facebook.com -pinterest.com -youtube.com
Look at the results:
There are TOO many pages, so we need to sort them and choose real target websites.
For that, I’m going to use Google’s inbuilt filter to restrict results to a certain date range.
Let’s filter the search above to show only results from the past 24 hours.
Well, 32K of results look better:)
There are great tools you can use to extract all URLs in SERP to one file and then put it into GSheet, but I prefer to search manually and pay attention to web design and traffic.
Keywords Everywhere tool helps me to do it more effectively.
Long story short, I make sure that a website is a good place for inserting my client’s link.
Here is the first article I saw in SERP:
I don’t like that the traffic is so low here, so there is no sense in reaching out to the website owner and asking him to insert the link.
Let’s go to the next one:
Well, this one looks like a good candidate!
Look, there’s a link opportunity for us:
I recommend you create a new spreadsheet and track all the process there not to get lost anything.
Write down email address of the website owner, the website itself, page with unlinked mentions, and the status.
The next step I do is to find the contacts of the website holder.
I’ll use my client’s tool for that - Hunter.io.
It took me seconds:
Then I write the email, where ask them to add a link to the client’s website:
There, I mention the page, the exact tool in their listicle, and the link to add.
Easy!
And wait for the answer.
Hope it was helpful for you, guys!
See you next week!
